On 1-2 October 2015, Ukrainian Bar Association in cooperation with the EU Project “Support to Justice Sector Reforms in Ukraine” and the LCF Law Group have co-organized IV UBA Judicial Forum – one of the most significant events at the legal market of Ukraine.
This year the forum brought together key representatives of the Ukrainian justice sector, as well as international legal professionals. The participants discussed the issues related to the judicial reform, the impact of the judiciary in society, the rule of law as the basis for effective economy, as well as transparency in courts.
The first day of the Forum embraced issues of investment attractiveness and competitive jurisdictions, the practical implementation of the theory of the rule of law and the fair justice. The second day will focus on judicial reform and changes in the industry, international legal disputes and the potential of constitutional complaints.
“Judicial reform is among the most important issues that attract public attention due to the current challenges in this area. The Judicial Reform Council under the President of Ukraine, in cooperation with Ukrainian and international experts, has developed the Ukraine Justice Sector Reform Strategy 2015-2020. Significant steps will be made to achieve sound changes in the judicial sector,”- said Oleksiy Filatov, Deputy Head of the Administration of the President of Ukraine.
Dr. Virgilijus Valancius, Team Leader of the EU Project “Support to Justice Sector Reforms in Ukraine”, also stressed an importance of adoption of the Ukraine Justice Sector Reform Strategy 2015-2020 and reaffirmed commitment of the Project team to support Ukrainian government with its implementation. “Ukraine has a vision how to reform the judicial system. But it will be hard to make significant steps in this direction without joint efforts of the political elite,” – noted Dr. Valancius.
