According to the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine, 700 candidates with the most outstanding results have already been selected for the second stage.   

These are the results of the first part of a candidate selection for vacant positions of local court judges. The candidates took the Ukrainian language test and the test on a knowledge of legislation. Out of around 5000 applicants, 4128 passed successfully. 700 most outstanding candidates are approved for the next stage. 40% of them are judicial assistants, – Sergiy Kozyakov, Нead of the High Qualification Commission of Judges, informed about it at the press conference held at Ukraine Crisis Media Center on 07 November.

The next stage is psychological testing that envisages written par and an interview with psychologist. Each candidate will be assessed according to 11 indicators, such as emotion control, impulse control, cooperation, communication, ability to defend his/her opinion and to get his/her message across.

“A judge is not just a good lawyer. He or she should be a person capable of resolving conflicts in the society. This function requires more than the knowledge of legislation and jurisprudence, but also moral, ethical and social skills and competences. This is what the psychological testing of candidates is designed for,” – said Dovydas Vitkauskas, Team Leader of the EU Project “Support to Justice Sector Reforms in Ukraine”.

The tests will be followed by special review of candidates. Next step – a course at the National School of Judges and qualification exams scheduled for July 2019.

According to the state demand, 600 candidates will be able to occupy the positions in local courts.
