Results of the new Supreme Court selection will be announced soon, following a process which started on 7 November 2016 and lasted for many months. We decided to remind you a few important facts:
- For the first time in the history of Ukraine, the whole of the Supreme Court is being formed through an open competition;
- For the first time, not only judges of all instances, but also lawyers and legal scholars can apply for a judge;
- For the first time, fullest-scale psychological testing was conducted in the Ukrainian public sector;
- For the first time, representatives of non-governmental organisations have unique powers to present evidence and contest any candidate’s selection by way of the Public Integrity Council.
“HQCJ is setting a new standard for Ukraine and, perhaps, the whole of Europe, by creating a completely new Supreme Court based on accessible, inclusive, transparent and truly merits-based selection approaches” – Dovydas Vitkauskas, Team Leader of the EU Project “Support to Justice Sector Reforms in Ukraine”.
