On October 21-22, 2015, the International Conference on “Property Right: European Experience and Ukrainian Realities” was held in the Supreme Court of Ukraine. It was initiated in close cooperation with the EU Project “Support to Justice Sector Reform in Ukraine”, the OSCE Project Coordinator’s in Ukraine Project “Guarantee of Human Rights in Administration of Justice” and the Law Faculty of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
Judges, academicians, practicing lawyers, national and international experts participated in the conference. The participants were discussing a number of topical issues connected to application by Ukrainian national courts of Article 1 of the First Protocol to the Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms and the relevant case law of the European Court of Human Rights .
The Head of the Supreme Court of Ukraine Yaroslav Romaniuk outlined the following: “As the right to property is protected at the highest level under Article 1 of the First Protocol to the Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, the countries having signed the Convention should respect this right and guarantee respect of this rights at the national level”`.
“Guarantees of respect of the right to property provides basis for development of efficient market economy. That is why this institute requires proper legal regulation, constituent interpretation and practical application. It is important to ensure uniformity of case law for this purpose,” – said the Team Leader of the EU Project “Support to Justice Sector Reform in Ukraine” Virgilijus Valancius.
